Can Office Docs be Stored in Trunk Wiki Pages?

Postby rhindere » Thu Sep 24, 2009 3:38 pm

Hi,

Just started using Trunk today. When I saw how cool it was, especially with wifi sharing, I had one of those "get up and pace around with a grin on your face" moments.

I'm new to Wiki coding in general. I had a question as follows:

- Is it possible to either embed a doc like a spreadsheet in a Trunk page or create a link to a location on the iphone containing the document? I use the QuickOffice app to move files onto my iPhone. It would be great to store those docs in Trunk. I wouldn't expect to be able to open them within Trunk (although that would be unnaturally cool!) but perhaps launch them from the PC using wifi share.

Any guidance would be very appreciated! Also, the docs I'm referring to are sensitive and could not be stored on a site like Google docs.

Thanks!!!

Hello,

At the moment Trunk Notes can only store text notes and images created using the devices camera and/or photo library. I would like Trunk Notes to support uploading of arbitrary files in a future version. You can create links to files which are hosted externally but I don't think this is really what you want.

I am currently working on Trunk 2.0 and hopefully (although no promises at the moment) will be able to include support for uploading files using wi-fi share mode. I do however want to not spend months before Trunk 2.0 is released so might push this feature back to 2.1.

Regards,

Hi,

I found that with the app, GoodReader - a PDF/txt reader app, you can create a link in Trunk Notes with the gropen:// protocol to reference a document in GoodReader.
Basically the app creates a link that you copy and paste into a TrunkNotes note. Clicking the link will launch Goodreader to the document linked to.

I got this to work, but found a glitch. Any pdf filenames that have underscores in GoodReader will get a link created that also have underscores, and when pasted into Trunk, while the underscores are there in Edit Mode, once the wiki page is saved and viewed, the underscores are gone, and the pasted link is not recognized as a link in View Mode. Deleting the underscores via GoodReader, creating a new link, and pasting it into Trunk solves the problem.

Ah...reason for glitch is underscore is meaningful for ?italics? in markdown...you can add '\' before any underscores to escape code interpretation, and then the link shows up properly.

I have just loaded 2.3.0 and I can't get the hot linking to work for good reader or anything else, even email addresses or phone numbers. I have activated the relevant setting in preferences. Am I doing something wrong?

I just tried linking to good reader and found that you must use the [link name](URL ) syntax. the simple
<URL> does not recognise the gropen protocol.

That's fantastic, thank you.

Meanwhile, I'm still puzzled about why other things like phone numbers are not recognised in 2.3.9 on the iPad. It works on the iPod Touch.

Data detectors are one of my big things to fix (these recognise phone numbers, etc). I think they broke when I went all AJAXy to try and speed up the loading of pages. I may have to revert to a slower way of loading pages - which won't be noticeable anyway on the latest devices.
