What are these new functions that are coming in 2.0

Postby cst516 » Sat Nov 07, 2009 2:03 am

I was reading the new features for the new 2.0 and noticed some that I don't know what they can do.

" New functions - stylesheet, background, random, numnotes, functiondoc, timestamp, backlinks"

I know some of these features but I don't know what "background, random, numnotes, and fuctiondoc" I was wondering what these do. Just getting ready for the new release and trying to plan if I will use these features or not.

stylesheet - allows you to specfy a CSS stylesheet to be used for a note

background - sets the background colour of a note, e.g. Background yellow

random - chooses a random line from a note

numnotes - returns the number of notes (excluding built in notes)

functiondoc - displays a list of all functions and a usage for each

timestamp - returns current date/time

backlinks - returns a list of all notes which link to the supplied note. E.g. Backlinks HomePage will list all notes which have links to HomePage

Thanks!
As 2.0 finaly came out today I have been playin with these enhanements. I am still not sure what

"Support for PHP Markdown tables" is. I thought it was for the use of tables but I have not got it working.

Is this what it is for and if it is how do I get that working.

Thanks again for a great product

Hello

There is a simple example in the Trunk Notes docs.

For more information see http://michelf.com/projects/php-markdown/extra/#table

Thanks, I figured out why it was not working for me. I was forgetting to put the seperator lines after the headers. My last wiki just required the pipes and not the seperator lines so my brain was trying to force it.

Thanks

Not sure I fully understand why these features (functions) were implemented when some others that seemed to be far more useful were not

Hi Matthew, in the work I do, I'm using the Random Function quite often. A wish-list item for me would be that the function ignore all of the heading lines. Some of the pages I'm randomizing are quite long with alphabetic subheads so I'm doing a page-back-page-forward to refresh the random selections quite often.

TN is a real workhorse app for me, worth every penny and all of the upgrades have been worthwhile and well tested.

This could be coded in the form of a Lua script...

I'm not sure from your description, but it's possible you could restructure your pages to make that work. If you had the nonvarying header lines in one page and {{include}} the pages to vary, it might save you some scripting work.
